Chelsea are reportedly close to agreeing a fresh deal with Brazil international David Luiz. Luiz and Chelsea have been locked in negotiations for a while over new contract terms. The Blues have a long running policy of offering players above 30 years one year extension deals.
However, Luiz had been pushing for a two year contract offer from the club.
The former PSG defender has less than 6 months left on his current contract and can speak to foreign clubs over a potential transfer. Napoli and Monaco are among the clubs linked to the player but no official confirmation has been made.
Goal reports that Luiz is close to finalizing a one-year-contract extension that would see him extend his stay at the club to 2020. It is understood that talks between the player’s representative and the club have yielded positive gains in the past few days.
Luiz has emerged as a reborn player under Maurizio Sarri. The 31 year old has been a major feature in the first XI this season.
He has made 28 appearances in all competitions and converted the winning sport kick in the Carabao Cup defeat of Tottenham on Thursday.
Luiz is in his second spell at Chelsea having signed from PSG in a deal worth £34 million 2 seasons ago.
