According to reports emerging from Spain, the current Super Cup holders are interested in securing the service of Marcos Alonso from Chelsea.
Alonso has been identified by Atletico Madrid as replacement for Brazilian Felipe Luis who is reportedly set to join PSG.
Diego Simeone is an admirer of the good work Alonso has put in to take his career to this level and he is willing to dish out 30 million euros to secure the player before the transfer window shuts later this month.
Maurizio Sarri will of course be unwilling to sanction such a deal given that he won’t b able to secure a replacement as the transfer window in England closed since August 10.
Also, the left fullback is very important to whatever project Sarri is overseeing at the club. And besides Alonso strong defending, he does sometimes chip in with crucial goals.
A recent instance is his winning goal against Arsenal in the second match in the 2018-19 season. His pace and set piece are also attributes that set him apart from other left fullback.
So it is very certain that if Felipe Luis eventually depart Atletico Madrid for France, Alonso will not be the one replacing him as Chelsea will not do business.
Chelsea are up against Newcastle in their next fixtures. A match they most win to keep the momentum going.
