Chelsea told to pay £40m for star defender sold by Antonio Conte

Chelsea are considering a move for former Academy player Nathan Ake according to reports in England. Ake has been impressive in the heart of the defence for the Cherries this season and has attracted interests from a host of Premier League sides.

Bournemouth are bracing themselves for a bidding war and have brought in a replacement for the 23-year-old. The Premier League outfit signed Chris Mepham from Brentford this month and the club is likely to lose Ake in the final days of the transfer window. Bournemouth have slapped a transfer fee of £40 million for the highly rated defender.

Ake joined Bournemouth from Chelsea last season in a £20 million deal as the player was deemed surplus to requirements.

However his form this season has convinced Chelsea, that the defender has what it takes to succeed in Stamford Bridge. Chelsea currently have David Luiz, Gary Cahill, Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen as current options in the centre-back position.

Cahill is expected to leave this season, while Luiz is yet to sign a new contract with his current deal running out at the end of the season. This leaves the club short at the back and the arrival of Nathan Ake would help bolster the defensive options.

It remains to be seen if Chelsea would sanction a huge outlay for a player released by the club some few years back.
