Manchester United have received a massive boost as Anthony Martial appears to be close to signing a new deal with the club. This turnaround caps an impressive month for the Red Devils as the player was close to an exit last summer.
Martial endured a torrid spell under the regime of former United manager Jose Mourinho which culminated in him missing excluded from France World Cup-winning squad. This led to the 23-year-old putting in a transfer request in the summer.
However, the sack of Mourinho in November has seen a remarkable transformation of the club under interim boss Ole Gunnar Solksjaer. The Red Devils are currently on a 7-game winning streak which has seen the club claw back into the top 4 race.
Martial has been in the starting line-up during this period and has decided to open transfer negotiations with the club. The news of a contract renewal was initially reported by Journalist Mohamed Bouhasfsi who tweeted about the deal.
Martial agent Phillipe Lomboley also confirmed that talks were on but a final deal was yet to be reached by both parties.
“Anthony #Martial has reached an agreement to extend his 5-year contract with @ManUtd!”
Information confirmed by his agent Philippe Lamboley who specifies that ‘some details remain to be finalised.'”
Earlier last week, Martial spoke of the new found freedom under the new management of Solksjaer and revealed his delight in working with the United legend.
“It is great for me to work with a manager who was attacking even when he was playing, just like me,” “He comes with good advice, especially suggestions for positioning in front of goal and the actual finishing.
