Chelsea forward Alvaro Morata is expected to complete his move to Atletico Madrid today. According to reports, the Spanish ace has completed a medical with the club and is expected to sign on an 18-month deal.
Morata has endured a turbulent campaign and struggled for game time under the reign of Maurizio Sarri. The Italian tactician often dropped Morata in favour of Eden Hazard and Olivier Giroud.
The arrival of Gonzalo Higuain on Wednesday paved the way for a move to Atletico Madrid as Morata seeks to rejuvenate his career back home in Spain.
The 26-year-old forward arrived Stamford Bridge from Real Madrid in a deal worth £70 million last season.
Despite a strong start to his Chelsea career, in which he scored on his debut, Morata has struggled in front of goal for most parts of his stay in London. It was hoped that the arrival of Sarri in the summer could be what he needed but that experiment has also failed.
It is understood that Atletico agreed on a loan fee of £4million with an option to make permanent for around £46million. It would be interesting to watch how he performs in Spain where he would be teammates alongside Diego Costa and Antoine Griezmann.
