According to The Metro, Manchester United have been handed a boost in the race for Serbian star, Sergej Milinkovic-Savic. It is reported that the Italian club are resigned to losing the 23-year-old in the summer, and are currently lining up Real Betis midfielder, Fabian Ruiz, as per Italian media publication, Corierre dello Sport. It is believed that Milinkovic-Savic will leave the Stadio Olimpico outfit if they don’t qualify for next season’s Champions League.
Manchester United manager, Jose Mourinho has confirmed that he wants to sign a new midfielder in the summer, and will go for a second if Marouane Fellaini leaves Old Trafford. United have scouted the player on numerous occasions this season, as Mourinho believes that he would form an excellent partnership with Nemanja Matic and Paul Pogba in a midfield trio. Milinkovic-Savic has impressed for the Simone-Inzaghi tutored side, scoring 12 times from midfield.
Lazio hope to sell the player for around £90-100m, which would pave the way for them to sign Ruiz from Real Betis whose release clause is set at £24m. Despite looking odds-on for a Champions League place earlier in the season, Lazio have lost 4 out of their last 6 games in Serie A and are just a point above Inter Milan, who are in fifth place. United need a goalscoring midfielder that can offer the link between attack and defence.
At 23, he will be a valuable asset to the team if eventually signed, though the fee being mooted is a tad higher for a player that has not done it consistently in the Champions League.
