Manchester United could be set to add a marquee signing to our midfield as reports in the Italian press suggest that PSG star, Marco Verratti is open to the possibility of leaving the Parc des Princes after failing out with new boss, Thomas Tuchel. The Italian midfielder was reportedly told by his new manager that he needs to lose weight in order to fit into his system, a statement Verratti finds degrading for a player of his quality and standing in the world of football.
The 26-year-old has been a long-term target for United and manager, Jose Mourinho and this latest development means that there is increasing likelihood of us signing him should he decide to leave the French capital. Mourinho is set to add Brazilian International, Fred to his midfield this summer, but the Portuguese tactician would love the opportunity to have a player of Verratti’s ilk in the middle of the park at Old Trafford, orchestrating things from the deep-lying playmaker.
Calcio Mercato report that United have been offered the player, though no fee has been mentioned. It would seem that Verratti wants a new challenge as his agent, Mino Raiola is looking to make an exit possible this summer. Raiola enjoys a superb relationship with the Old Trafford hierarchy having brokered deals to bring Pogba, Mkhitaryan and Ibrahimovic to the Theatre of Dreams in recent years.
Verratti is one of the best midfield players in the world and is admired world over for his ability to hold play, passing range as well as his creativity. He joined PSG in 2012 as a 19-year-old from Pescara and has made 239 appearances for the capital outfit, scoring on 8 occasions and winning 18 trophies in the process.
