Maurizio Sarri reveals £120k-a-week star has surprised him the most

When Maurizio Sarri took over the reins at Chelsea, lots of changes were envisaged and there were no disappointment whatsoever in that regard. This is evidenced by their undefeated start to the season.

Prior to the arrival of Sarri, most players were alienated by former manager Antonio Conte, whose pattern of play suited some and others not so lucky were left on the bench. David Luiz was amongst the latter lot.

However, since the arrival of Sarri, the Brazilian has grown from strength to strength. His intelligence and technical ability have seen his partnership with Antonio Rudiger at central defence almost impregnable.

His exploits and improvement has surprised his coach and this has led to his singing the player’s praises to the media. “David Luiz surprised me with his awareness and intelligence”, the coach remarked.

These are important statements because when individual efforts are appreciated, it motivates them to do more.

Other players also singled out for encomiums by the Italian gaffer are Ross Barkley, Willian and Alvaro Morata.

So far, David Luiz has been impeccable and long may this form continue as Chelsea hope to win silverware and qualify for the Champions League next season.
