Liverpool play Red Star Belgrade in their Champions League group stage tie on Wednesday. The Merseyside club have been hit by a couple of injury concern lately. But the update by the coach, Jürgen Klopp has somewhat allayed fears of any crisis in that front.
During the weekend in the premier League encounter with Huddersfield Town, Henderson was substituted at halftime due to a later confirmed hamstring. Prior, Sadio Mane and Naby Keita were declared unavailable because of similar injury sustained by the latter and a broken thumb by the former whilst representing their nations.
The gaffer during his pre Champions League match interview bemoaned the injuries challenge facing his team. “It’s not too good, to be honest,” he told Liverpool’s official website when asked about Henderson.
“It’s nothing we have to worry too much about, but it’s a hamstring issue so we will have to see. He will not be available for tomorrow for sure, and probably not Cardiff (on Saturday), but hopefully then he can be back. We will see” he concluded.
Concerning the Guinean, Klopp had this to report. “Naby is already outside running, but the game tomorrow will be too early for sure.”
However, Gini Wijnaldum who replaced Henderson, suffered a knock on his Achilles at the Terriers but has been passed fit for the champions League fixture.
Sadio Mane has returned and will likely play against Red Star Belgrade – a team whose fans have been banned for away matches because of crowd trouble in the Champions League qualifier against Salzburg, an Austrian based club.
The Red sit in second place locked on points with PSG. Italian side, Napoli are atop the group with four points with the team visiting Anfield today at the bottom.
