Chelsea target Gonzalo Higuain is expected to finalize a loan move to the Premier League club in the next 48 hours. Higuain has agreed on personal terms with the Blues and is set to become the second signing for the club in the January transfer window.
The Argentine forward is expected to cut short his loan stint at AC Milan and has reportedly said his goodbye to his teammates at the Serie A club. Chelsea coach Maurizio Sarri is keen to get the player in before the Carabao Cup tie against Tottenham on Thursday.
Chelsea struggles upfront has been well documented this season and the latest defeat against Arsenal on Saturday served to reinforce this point. Higuain is understood to have joined on a 6-month loan deal which can be extended for a further year depending on his performances at the club.
Sarri was quizzed about the club transfer plans ahead of the clash against Arsenal; he replied that Chelsea chief Marina Granovskaia knows his preferred targets. The former Napoli coach also spoke of his confidence in her ability to get the targets before the end of the transfer window.
“Marina knows my opinion on how to improve the team,” he said. “I am confident because I know Marina is working very hard, but I don’t know the market at all. I want to be focused on the matches. So I don’t call her every evening, otherwise I’d spend all my mental energy on the market.”
From all indications, a deal has been wrapped up and the player is only a medical away from being unveiled as the latest Chelsea signing.
