Chelsea are reportedly close to signing Zenit St Petersburg playmaker Leandro Paredes but face a last-minute challenge from Paris Saint-Germain. Chelsea are understood to be locked in negotiations with the Russian outfit with both clubs far away in their valuation of the player.
Goal reports that PSG has entered the race for the highly-rated midfielder and are looking to sway the player to Paris.
Paredes is believed to have agreed personal terms with both clubs and has no personal preference at the moment. Chelsea are keen on bringing the Argentine international as a replacement to legendary midfielder Cesc Fabregas who completed a move to Monaco.
The Stamford Bridge outfit had earlier submitted a bid of around £27million which was rejected by Zenit as they value the player at around £37 million. Chelsea are keen to avoid a bidding war with PSG but the French side are also limited due to existing issues with FFP regulations.
Paredes’ recent social media activity suggests that he prefers Chelsea to PSG and here’s how he would look in Chelsea shirt if he completes the move to west London.
Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri made his intentions clear ahead of the clash against Arsenal of his intentions to bring in a midfielder in January. The Blues are currently light in that position with the injury of Rueben Loftus-Cheek.
“You know my opinion about the replacement of Cesc,” Sarri said.
“We need a replacement, in my opinion. Marina knows very well my opinion. So I’m not frustrated at the moment.”
Chelsea currently sits 4th position three points ahead of Arsenal and Manchester United after their defeat at the Emirates on Saturday.
