Chelsea are close to the signing of Gonzalo Higuain from AC Milan, however, reports suggest that the club is targeting another signing from Italy. Napoli defender Elseid Hysaj has emerged a key target for Chelsea as we count down to the end of the January transfer Window.
Chelsea coach Maurizio Sarri is unhappy with his current group of payers and wants to sign players that he trusts. The Italian tactician slammed His team in the aftermath of the 2-0 defeat at Arsenal and now wants to sign a new right-back.
Current Chelsea captain Ceaser Azpilicueta has not fully convinced Sarri and could see competition for a first team shirt with the arrival of Hysaj. Hysaj was a target for the Blues in the summer but Napoli prevented a transfer with a clause inserted into Sarri’s severance contract.
The Albanian international has now fallen down the pecking order at Napoli this season under Carlo Ancelotti. Chelsea wants the defender on loan but reports have emerged in Italy that the defender could join Chelsea in a deal worth £45 million in the summer.
Hysaj’s agent Mario Giuffredi revealed to reporters at the beginning of the month that there was interest from the Blues regarding a transfer for his client. He also hinted that Hysaj could make a move in the summer if he continues to have little playing time this season.
‘Of course, the January transfer window is always to be evaluated and there has been talk of Chelsea, for example. ‘If there are situations that are mutually advantageous, then we’d evaluate them. If nothing happens in January, then we’ll discuss a contract extension.
