Top Maurizio Sarri target wants to play for Manchester United not Chelsea

Chelsea have been dealt a major transfer blow as reports in Italy claim that key target Nicolo Barella prefers a move to Manchester United. Barella has been in the news in recent weeks over a move to Stamford Bridge.

Sarri is a huge fan of Barella and had reportedly informed the board of his desire to sign the midfielder as a replacement for Cesc Fabregas.

However, Gazetta dello Sport reports that United have emerged as Chelsea closest rivals for the player’s signature. The report also claimed that Barella is interested in playing in the Premier League and would accept a move to Old Trafford if an agreement is reached.

Cagliari have rejected bids from several clubs including Chelsea and Manchester United. The Italian club have slapped a transfer fee of £43 million for the Italy international.

Chelsea’s other midfield target Leandro Paredes appears to be heading to PSG. The Zenit St Petersburg midfielder is believed to have accepted a contract offer with the French giants.

Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri has spoken of his desire to add reinforcements to the midfield ahead of the business end of the season. It remains to be seen whether the club would sanction a late move for the 21-year-old or move to other targets.

The Blues currently lie 3 points above Arsenal and Manchester United in the battle for 4th place.
