“You never know what can happen.” Those were the words of Marco Asensio when confronted with the question concerning his future in a recent interview.
There were rumours reported by Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo that Liverpool had lodged a €180m bid for the Spanish player while Chelsea were also mentioned in the mix.
Asensio’s playing time has come under scrutiny after featuring in a one minute cameo in the champions league final against Liverpool.
A new coach has been appointed to continue with the good work Zidane started which saw them win the champions league three times in four years.
Asensio’s impact in the team seems to have waned after the appointment of the current coach, Julen Lopetegui. A sit down with the trainer by the player has been suggested as the player’s next course of action.
After a premature exit from the World Cup, the player has not closed the door to an exit even though he believes that he presently plays for the best club in the world.
“My first option is always to triumph at Real Madrid. After that, you never know what can happen,” he told GQ (h/t Teamtalk).
“Real Madrid are the most successful club in the world and from the start you know you have to be prepared and to give everything for the shirt.
“I try not to focus too much on the expectations there are of me. It’s normal for so much to be generated, because they’ve been two really good years at Real Madrid. I just hope to keep getting better,” he was quoted as saying in his most recent interview.
Madrid have sold their most influential player in Cristiano Ronaldo to Juventus and have faltered in the Super Cup against city rivals Atletico.
However, they won their opening game in the La Liga. A competition they yielded to Barcelona last season. Hopefully, the 13 times champions league winners will do better in the domestic front.
